Weekend training: Sat 19th – Sun 20th May 2012
LOK is organising a weekend of orienteering training with an overnight stay on Saturday 19th May, possibly at the Tanners Hatch Youth Hostel Association (YHA) hostel near Polesden Lacey in Surrey. The details have yet to be decided but there will be running orienteering training on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, and possibly a night orienteering event.
Accommodation and programme details will be confirmed when there is a clearer idea of numbers. Children are welcome and will need parental supervision. Ian Bullock is organising the event -please send Ian an email if you are interested, with as accurate a statement of numbers and ages as possible. If you have any ideas for training courses or exercises then feel free to forward them on.
Trent Park Boxing Day Event
The Trent Park Boxing Day Score Event in North London was organised by LOK in conjunction with the Happy Herts club. Results can be downloaded here: results /results with split times.
A ‘score’ event entails running to as many controls on the map as possible within 60 minutes. You decide which controls to visit and in which order, with the knowledge that different controls score different point values (10, 20 or 30 points). There is a penalty (2o points) for each minute you are late back. Details (PDF) of the event can be downloaded here.

The map is coloured according to the speed you can run the terrain. Orienteering is a challenging sport for all ages (Images 2, 4 Digisport; 3 British Orienteering)
