Primrose Hill is a charming area in North London with a network of quiet and leafy roads, with Primrose Hill providing a great view of London. The placement of controls was intended to provide a challenge to determining optimal route choice, whilst encouraging runners to explore the nicer avenues. Rather than put the 50 point controls at each corner of the map, one was placed on the top of Primrose Hill. Some runners can visit all controls within 60 minutes, and it was unnecessary to place a 50-point control in the less appealing southeastern corner of the map. A 10-point control was sufficient to differentiate the top runners.
A handful of 10-point controls in close proximity in the central part of Primrose Hill residential area was intended to provide interest to those less able to cover longer distances within the 60 minutes, but was also distraction, as the competitor would need to make a quick choice on whether to visit these or head off to the higher scoring controls.
The Engineer was a good venue with sufficient extra staff for a weekday evening. Thanks to the LOK volunteers for helping out. There were quite a few positive comments, which is always welcome.

Event details
Event: A Street-O score event in the Chalk Farm / Primrose Hill area of North London. Beginners are welcome. It is a great way to explore the area and is part of the SLOW Street-O series. Visit as many control sites in whichever order you like within 60 minutes. Each ‘control site’ on the map will have the answer to a clue on a clue sheet (e.g. fire hydrant number, postbox number etc.). Control sites are worth between 10 and 50 points with a penalty of 1 point deducted for every 2 seconds late back (so you’ll lose 30 points if you are a minute late).
Venue: The Engineer pub, 65 Gloucester Avenue, London, NW1 8JH (just 10 minutes’ walk south from Chalk Farm tube station on the Northern line. What3words: ///usage.crab.jolly
Equipment: You are advised to bring a torch, compass, a pen to mark your answers and a watch or phone to keep track of time. Hi-viz or light-coloured clothing for extra visibility is strongly advised. We are using electronic timing, so bring your own dibber if you have one (you can hire one on the night). You can leave your bags in the pub (items left at your own risk).
Fees: Enter via Fabian4. Please enter in advance. If you arrive without having entered, you will be asked to enter online via Fabian4. LOK/SLOW/DFOK members £3, others £5. Juniors and students £3. Entry fees rise by £2 after Sun 9 February. Juniors (16 and under) are not allowed to run street events unless accompanied by an adult. £1 SI card hire.
