Organiser’s comments

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the 2024 Trent Park Boxing Day Score Event. The weather was cooler and mistier than in the last two years, but fortunately not as wet under foot.

For the first time in several years we were able to place controls in the North Lawn, the showpiece public space in front of Trent Park House, adding a bit of variety for our many regular competitors.

The winner was Ben Gostick of HH, M20, recent joiner to the GB Development Squad and son of the planner (so an early riser to hang out controls), who was one of two of the 92 competitors to win bonus points for getting back early having collected all the controls. Ben earned 600 plus 20 bonus points for being over 2 minutes early. The highest scoring woman was Rachel Sequeira, also of HH, who scored 360 points in just under the hour.

Many thanks to the event team drawn from HH and LOK. In particular, thanks to Neil Gostick, planner for the second year running, and his team of control hangers who were out shortly after dawn – Jenny and Ben Gostick, Ian Byford and Sebastian Flesch (all from HH). Thanks also to Ronan and Julie Cleary (LOK) for controlling and running the start for the umpteenth year running, and Kevin and Laura Parkes (HH) who ran the IT as smoothly as ever. Thanks also to other members of the event team Hedley Calderbank, Daniel Figg, Peter Errington, Charles Spence, Marion Shipman, Clive Hillier, Anthony and Elise Flick.

The only blips were the public toilets, which were unexpectedly locked shut, and a herd of overly friendly cows that initially prevented Neil from placing control 112.

All going well we should all be able to be back for more in 2025.
