London Orienteering Klubb (LOK) invited you to an Ultra Sprint on Sunday 15th September. This is the third of three events comprising the London City Race weekend.

LOCATION & TRAVEL Waterlow Park, Highgate High Street, London, N6 5JR. Please enter the park from the north-most Highgate High Street gate (What3words: ///retain.hatch.guises) and don’t use any other entrances to the park, as you will be in the competition area. The nearest underground station to this entrance is Highgate station on the Northern Line and then a 15-minute walk. Limited parking is available on nearby residential streets; please park considerately.
COURSES For the first time since 2017 the Ultra Sprint returns to the London City Race. Competitors will run three prologue heats on courses of approximately 1km with a high density of controls, including sections in a specially constructed maze. There will then be a set of finals involving all competitors. This high intensity orienteering will provide a challenge to all competitors and is great to watch; click here for a short video taster from the 2015 event.
Age classes will be grouped into 8 courses in order to manage numbers on each course. As everybody runs similar courses in both the heats and finals, there is no benefit in entering a different course. Accordingly, all entries are by age class only.

ENTRIES Pre entry online via SiEntries.co.uk. Entries are by age class. Until 10 August, entry fees are £13 for seniors, £8 for young adults (aged 21 to 25) and £5 for juniors. Thereafter until 8 September, entry fees are £14 for seniors, £9 for young adults and £5 for juniors. Supplement of £2 for anyone who is not a member of British Orienteering Federation. Electronic timing using SI dibbers which can be hired for £1. Entries for the Ultra Sprint close at midnight on Sunday 8 September. We regret that no late entries or entry on the day are possible.
Note: entries are limited to 400 participants.
DIBBERS Courses may have more than 30 controls and controls may be less than 5 seconds apart. Hence, anybody using a type 8 or 11 dibber will not be able to enter using that dibber and must either hire a dibber or use a different dibber if they have one. SIAC contactless dibbers may be used, but contactless punching will not be in use; instead, anyone with a SIAC must dib each control. This is due to the high density of the controls which does not permit use of contactless mode.
TERRAIN AND MAP This is urban parkland on a steep hillside with spectacular views over the city and is landscaped with ponds, a wide variety of trees, colourful borders and grassy slopes. The land was the gift of Sir Sydney Waterlow as a ‘garden for the gardenless’.

FACILITIES Toilets nearby. There are several pubs and cafes near the park.
TIMES Competitors should run their three prologue heats between 10.30 and 12.30. We will start the finals from about 1pm to allow those with long journeys home to experience a third day of orienteering as part of the London City Race.
SAFETY Orienteering is an adventure sport and competitors take part in this race at their own risk. Entries and results will be processed by computer. Your entry will be taken as agreement to this. The competition is run under the rules and guidelines of, and sanctioned by, British Orienteering. Competitors are advised to bring their own water. Please take care to give the general public (dog walkers, families, etc) priority.
