Hampstead Heath North Park Race – 14 August 2014

Well that was a tough one for regular Park Racers, but 108 of you came to London’s trickiest inner-city orienteering area on a damp Thursday evening to pit yourselves against a map with little park-standard yellow … congratulations!

With winning times 50% longer than the normal Park Race event, Martin Hime certainly set you a challenge to test you, with a full 5km (on Long) straight-line course and 120m metres of climb.  Despite this being the height of the undergrowth season, the view was that Martin’s courses allowed for fas runs without getting scratched and stung to bits.

The only downside was the one runner what decided to abandon the Long course at number eight and just wonder off home.  A search by torch-light, calls to park security, police, phone calls and email resulted in no body.  It was only a visit to their home at 23:00 hrs that we discovered them sitting in their boxers watching tele!  Special thanks to Pete Huzan (SLOW) for his detective work on the net … appears this recent orienteering-returnee last has an orienteerring footprint on the web at … Hampstead Heath 5km evening event in 2007 … and they were a DNF …. spookey!
